A Little Bit About Poker Tells

Category : Online Gambling

When you are playing poker, you will want to know the various poker tells. Not only will these tells help you to figure out how good your opponents hand is, but knowing the tells will also help you to try to make sure that you aren’t giving tells out to the players you are playing against. Here is a list of some of the more common poker tells.  You will want to make sure that you remember them and pay close attention to others when you are in a game.

The first thing you will want to do is to watch the other player’s eyes. The reason that a lot of professional poker players wear sunglasses is because they know that their eyes can give away their hand. This is why you will really want to look at the eyes and learn how to read them.

Body language is another important area for you to pay attention to. Many people will change their body language when they have a good hand and they will look as if they are ready for you to confront them. If you notice another player looking ready to take you on, then they more than likely have a very good hand.

Pay special attention to the other players hands as well. The hands can really help you out and warn you when another player is holding a very big hand. If you notice their hands begin to tremble or shake, then you should be prepared for them to show a very good hand.

Betting patterns can really reveal a lot about the cards a person is holding. This is perhaps one of the most obvious of all the tells. For example, a person may fold quite often after being re-raised. This will let you know that this person tends to raise even when they aren’t really holding anything. A person may also check until the last card. This can show that they are either hoping for others to raise so they won’t tip their hand, or if they finally raise after the last card, they may have got the card that they were waiting for. Watching a person’s betting patterns will show you a whole lot about how they play their cards and will really help you out when it comes to improving your game and winning.

There is another tell which seems a little off the wall, but it can actually be a great way for you to quickly figure out the other players. You will want to pay attention to how they stack their chips. As a general rule, the players that keep their stacks sloppy tend to be the loose players. The players who play a tight game usually keep their chips stacked into nice and clean piles. When you are playing, you should look at the stacks and it won’t take you long to know if your interpretation is right or wrong. This can be a quick way for you to get a better idea of the other players playing style.

Winning Poker Hands – Which Ones Should You Play?

Category : General

Every time the hands are dealt, a player would always look for winning poker hands. It is the hand that would almost guarantee a win and the pot you could get would only depend upon the way you play it. But, how do you identify the hands that would bring home the gold? Or maybe even a couple more chips?

This would all depend upon the stage or the state of the game or the tournament. In the early part of the part of the game, the goal is to survive the first few blind levels. When the game and tournament progress, that’s when it is best to attack and be the aggressor; however for now the main objective is to survive. The hands that you should play in the early part are tight hands. AA, KK, QQ, JJ and AK are the winning poker hands to play in the beginning to be safe and survive to the later part of the tournament. TT and 99 are not as good but are also good bets to play.

When the blinds have increased around four to six times, this is the middle stage of the game. The players should only be around 5 or 6 left. In the middle stage, you would want to start to become aggressive and build a large chip stack in preparation of the later stage and be able to take out the first place. The winning poker hands for this stage of the game are the same as stated for the first part but now you can play suited AQ and unsuited AQ. Suited and unsuited KQ are also hands to play in this stage and any number pairs are good hands.

The later stage is when there are less than 5 people left in the game. This becomes a bit tricky and chip stacks are becoming smaller because of the blinds would be incredibly high. This is why it is important to build up a large stack in the middle part of the game because the pressure of the blinds wouldn’t be that big compared to the other players with smaller stacks. Most likely, unless the other players have a big stack of chips they would play passive. In this case, you would want to stay aggressive and keep the pressure on the other players. The winning poker hands for this stage are AA, KK, QQ, JJ, AK, AQ, KQ, JK, JQ, KT, AT, TJ and any other pair cards.

Stay safe and survive for the first part and become the aggressor later on and keep up the pressure. Building up from the beginning would could make a really big difference in the outcome of the game. Be patient and wait for the winning poker hands and you would be able to win games one by one and become a poker champion. Just remember that it is important to keep practicing playing poker. It is essential to practice and gain experience to get the best result out of the winning poker hands.

Texas Hold’em Poker – a Novices Guide Part 1

Texas holdem is the poker player’s game of choice and where the big prize money is to be made. Many players want to play Texas Holdem to win and win big.

Here we will cover the basics to get you started on your route to playing Texas Holdem and hopefully winning some big pots.

In its no limit form, it is used now in world class poker tournaments, and is the most popular of all the poker games today by far.

The game is played from two to ten players usually, though it can accommodate up to 22.

Playing the Game

To begin, the dealer will deal 2 cards face down to each player (these are known as a players ‘hole cards’).

The first round of betting will then follow immediately.

As the initial round of betting completes, the dealer will deal the first 3 ‘community cards’ face up (this is also called the ‘flop’). The second round of betting then follows.

At this point, the dealer will deal the 4th community card, again face up (called the ‘turn’ or fourth street). The third round of betting then follows.

The dealer will deal 5th community card face up (called the ‘river’ or fifth street), and the 4th and then the final round of betting begins.

All players use any combination of their 2 hole cards plus the 5 community cards to create the best possible 5 card poker hand.

The highest scoring hand then wins the pot and the hand is completed

Rules and Playing Etiquette

Although it’s a relatively easy game to learn, there is still a great deal of strategy to follow if you aim to win. Let’s start with the basics of the game and the order of play.

Where you happened to be sitting can be crucial in Texas Hold’em.

For example, if you are the last to act on a particular hand, it allows you to watch and react to what opponents are doing.

Keep in mind if your first you are at severe disadvantage as you do not know how to react as the players have given you no indication of how strong or weak their hands might be.

The rule is that the dealer is always the last to act in a given round of Texas Hold’em.

So, in order to keep the game fair, there is dealer rotation around the table.

The ‘dealer’ (or virtual dealer) has the advantage of acting last for any round. After the end of every round the dealer button rotates one player clockwise.

In Texas Hold’em not every player will paying an ante.

Instead, the first 2 players to the left of the dealer must post ‘blind bets’ before the dealer deals the first 2 cards.

They are known as ‘blind bets’ as the player pays the bets before seeing their cards. They therefore enter the game ‘blind’ with no idea how strong or weak their hand is

Actually the first player to the left of the dealer makes a ‘small blind’ bet, and the second player to the left of the dealer makes a ‘big blind’ bet. This works in the following way

The ‘big blind’ bet will equal the small bet, and the ‘small blind’ bet will be about half of the small bet.

For example a $20/$40 game would have a big blind of $20 and a small blind of $10. The first round of betting use the blinds to begin

Therefore, the $20 big blind would be the starting amount players must call to remain in the hand.

Also if no players raise the starting bet, the blinds are not required to re-pay their bet to remain.

That is, if no player raises the starting bet the big blind would not need to pay anything more to stay in, the small blind would have to pay the balance of the $20 bet, which in this case would be $10 to remain.

Also, it’s crucial to remember that players ‘hole cards’ are only as good as the community cards. What does this effectively mean?

It means that having an A-K in the hole is not very good odds for the player.

If the community cards are, say Q-Q-9-9-J. The cards do not match into any hand of value.

Furthermore, it can be assumed some other player could make a full house of queens or nines!

Finally, it’s very useful to watch the flop.

You can gauge the quality of your hand as 5 of your 7 cards can tell you how good your hand is in relation to the others, by watching the way they bet or react.

The Best Hand Does Not Always Win!

This covers the basics of Texas Holdem; the rest is strategy and experience.

Texas Holdem is a game of psychology and not always the best hand wins.

The psychology of Texas Holdem is not learned over night. It takes a long time and you need practice on how to play your cards, or more importantly the players you are competing with.

It is the psychological aspect that makes the game so exciting. In Texas Holdem it’s a brutal battle where only the strong survive but if you can the rewards can be immense.

Good Luck!

Play Small Games in Beginning: When you are just starting out with online poker, avoid playing in room where experienced players are playing or there is large amount of money in the pot. Start by playing in smaller rooms where the other players also have the similar skill levels as you. This way you can gradually improve your game and prepare for playing with experienced players.

Play With a Relaxed Mind: Being in a calm state of mind is very important for winning poker games. Texas Holdem Strategy

Category : Online Gambling

Texas Holdem has quickly become the most popular casino poker game online or off.  At any time, hundreds of real money Texas Hold’em tables are going at sites like PartyPoker.com, the largest online poker room on the Net.  It is currently the game you will see televised in such events as the World Series of Poker and The World Poker Tour.  Though Holdem looks and plays very simply, many experts agree that it is the most complex of poker games.  Due to its complexity, the game can be kind or harsh to beginners and grizzled old warriors alike.  The action is fast an furious, with more players, bets, raises and re-raises than many other typical poker games.  Winners win big, losers lose big.  These factors are the essence of what makes Texas Holdem so enjoyable, and therefore the King at the Casino.

The following is intended to be a basic introduction to and strategy for playing limit Texas Holdem online.  For more in depth articles on this topic, check out our other articles in the General Strategy section, or visit our sister site, MasteringHoldem.com.

The Button

The button represents the dealer.  In home games, no button is needed, as the cards are passed around the table and each player deals in turn.  In the casino and in online poker tables, the dealer is a professional or a computer.  Hence, the necessity of a “button”.  The button moves clockwise around the table after each hand, and the player “on the button” gets his cards last and bets last in each round.  Keeping up with the current location of the button is a huge consideration when determining positional strategy.

The Blinds

Texas Holdem has no ante.  To force the action without an ante, Holdem uses blind bets.  The first 2 players to the left of the button are forced to put in the blind bets.  Typically, the first player puts in the small blind, equal to half of the minimum bet, while the second player puts in the big blind, equal to a full minimum bet.  For example, in a game of $10/$20 limits, the small blind would be $5 and the big blind would be $10.

The Deal and Betting Rounds

Starting with the first player to the left of the button, each player is dealt 2 cards, face down, called pocket cards.  The first two players to the left of the button posts the blinds, and the first round of betting ensues.  The first action after the deal is taken by the player to the left of the big blind.  He and subsequent players can choose to call the big blinds bet, fold or raise.  In most Texas Holdem games, the blinds are live, which means that in the first round of betting, they get a chance to call, check or raise when the action moves around to them.  In this sense, the big blind would be the last player to act after the dealing of the pocket cards.

The Flop

The flop is 3 cards laid face up in the center of the table.  These cards serve as common cards.  Another round of betting ensues, with the first remaining player to the left of the button starting the action.

The Turn

A single card is laid face up, next to the flop, for a total of 4 cards face up.  Another betting round occurs, starting with the first player remaining to the left of the button.

The River

A final card is turned face up, bringing the total number of common cards face up on the board to 5.  A final round of betting occurs, starting with the first player remaining to the left of the button.

Showdown

After betting is complete and if more than two players remain, a showdown occurs in which the winner is determined by the best five card hand possible using the 5 common cards and each players’ pocket cards.  It is entirely possible for the best hand to be completely “on the board,” in which case the remaining players split the pot.  It is also possible to have a “tie” in which the players with the same hand strengths split the pot.

After the showdown, the button moves one person clockwise, and the next hand is dealt.

The Perfect Poker Chip

Category : Online Gambling

You would think that buying poker chips would be simple. This is the farthest from the truth if you want to get the perfect chip. Chips come in many different styles, colors, materials and weights. Choosing the best poker chips will depend on the taste of you the poker player. You can customize your poker chips with a logo, monogramming, or stock denominations.

The good news is that even though it wasn’t that long ago that a one had to pay a couple hundred dollars for a quality set of poker chips, today these same sets are now sold for a fraction of that price.

Poker Chips are made out of several different materials; the most common are clay, clay composite, ABS plastic, or a ceramic material. Plastic is by far the cheapest and should only be considered if your budget is extremely tight.

Clay poker chips are a little more expensive but there is no substitute for even the casual poker player. Your investment in a nice set up chips will add a little style to your game. The vast majority of authentic casino chips are compression molded chips or more commonly known as “clay” chips. Modern clay chips are a composition of materials more durable than clay alone.

High quality chips will tend to mark and dent, however they should not mark so badly that the chip is mutilated. You can generally spot chips of low quality by looking for offset edge spots and low quality features which is caused by poor molds. Clay chips generally will stack a lot better than the cheaper plastic or composite chips. For that last bit of style you can customize your poker chips with a logo, monogramming, or stock denominations.

Poker chips generally come in 5 different colors, White, Red, Blue, Green and Black. Many clay chips will also have a printed graphic called an inlay.

Often chips will also have a metal insert that is added to provide weight to the chip for better handling and feel. The weight of the chips is probably the most confusing aspect of picking the right chip. Chip weight is generally measured in grams; the most common are 8.5, 9, 10, 11.5 and 13 grams. Authentic Clay chips are all between 8.5 and 10 grams.

No matter if you are just a casual weekend player with friends or a serious player your choice of poker chips can either add to the tradition and excellence of the game, or detract from it. Cheap poker chips are a lot like a cheap suit so spend that little extra and get a good quality clay chip set.

Poker tournaments WSOP and WSOPE

Category : Online Gambling

World Series of Poker (WSOP)  is at the moment one of the more popular poker tournaments, not only for the incredible amount of players participating, but also for the great media coverage that receives, as they are seen for thousands of people in their homes.

The history of WSOP goes back many years ago. Its creator was a poker fan named Benny Binion, who during the late 50s and 60s enjoyed organizing small poker and gambling competitions. Its passion for the game brought him to buy its own casino in 1970. He named it Binions Horseshoe Casino, which soon became a common visited place by the poker personalities of the time. With the increasing popularity of his casino, Benny soon started thinking about the idea of creating a poker tournament, and so he did. The name chosen for the competition was World Series Of Poker, which become more and more popular with the years. In the early 1980s a series of preliminary satellite competitions were introduced to select who will be playing the final tournament. This fact increased even more the popularity of the WSOP.

After the dead of the tournaments creator in 1989, his family took over the casino and the tournament. However, in 2004, the casino would be closed due to the fact that the taxes had not been paid.

But that did not mean the end of World Series of Poker. The same year, Harrahs Entertainment bought the casino and the WSOP brand rights. A new phase had just started. The first two next tournaments were also played at Binions casino; however, after 2006 they will start to take place across different casinos in EU.

Aware of the huge WSOP brand recognition together with the growing number of poker players and fans, Harrah decided to internationalize the competition, which so far had never took place outside USA.

That will be the beginning of World Series of poker Europe (WSOPE), whose first event took place in London in 2007. There were three different events in this tournaments played at three different casinos. To be the first time was quite successful, as the possibility of winning one of the desired WSOP bracelets attracted many well known players.

The second event, also celebrated in London was formed by four different events, but this time they all took place at only one casino. The triumph of this second edition proved the success of the event, which was once more reconfirmed by the huge amount of participants in the last edition, which is taking place right now in London.

Thanks to this tournament, poker has become more popular than ever, especially for all the attention received in the media. It also worth to mention that there is an online version of this competition, World Online Poker Championship, which is becoming very demanded in the best online poker rooms, and that once again serve to prove the success of poker.
