Bluffing is the key to winning and winning big in poker. Done well it can land you a lot of money on a poor hand, done badly it can leave you out of pocket and with egg on your face.
It is first important to note that bluffing is not always a good option. Everyone has heard of bluffing and most new players think that they need to do it every hand. This is far from true and should only be done once you are confident in your own ability and are aware of the skill levels of the players at the table.
Here are some excellent tips to improve your chances of spotting someone else’s bluff and hence improve your own ability to bluff without giving off any signs.
Try to observe the players before you start. What do you notice? Are any players doing something specific or gesturing in a certain way before the win or lose a hand? At the end of a hand always take note of the winner. Did he/she do anything during the hand that you think is important? A quickness to bet, eyeballing the chips or maybe a twitch of some sort would be obvious examples. Before playing properly it’s a good idea to sit out one or two hands (unless you have an excellent hand) just so as to get a feel for the table and the abilities and styles of the other players. Shaking hands can often be the key to interpreting what a player has. Far from a lack of confidence in their hand it most likely indicates a strong hand and an eagerness to bet that they are trying to conceal. Always pay attention to what is going on at the table, mannerisms and dialogue can give a lot away. Specifically look for players that have bluffed their way to a win/loss. If someone seems to be paying a lot of attention to their chips then there is a good chance that they are counting them and calculating whether or not a risky bet will pay off, hence there is a good chance they are bluffing. The amount of dialogue at the table is also important. Be very aware if a quiet player suddenly becomes talkative or vice versa. If this happens then always be suspicious of their hands as they are likely to be strong. If someone seems to be paying a lot of attention to someone else’s hand then there is a good chance that they have a strong hand and are trying to calculate the amount likely to be staked and that they can win. If possible always pay attention to people eyes. Where are they looking? Will they make eye contact? A refusal to make eye contact will often mean, as in real life, that they are hiding something. Be aware of the experts. Some people play a lot of poker and are excellent at masking everything. As well as this expert players can often fake any of the signs above so as to give the impression that their hand is not what it may seem.
Poker is a tough game to learn and get good at. The best way is to practice as much as you can, with your friends, competitions or on line. Remember; don’t bluff for the sake of bluffing, especially if you are new to the game as the majority of the time you will get caught out. Know what you’re doing and play sensibly. Never gamble with money you can’t afford to lose.

It’s no secret that in the lower levels in online poker your key to success is tight aggressive, especially in the early stages of a poker tournament. Most opponents simply just play themselves out of the tournament way too early by bluffing too much, playing too many hands, and playing too many big pots with marginal situations.
If poker is based on deception, then it goes to reason that the deception has more value when applied successfully in higher levels. I have truly found the couple were leveled you play online poker deception does not carry the kind of value it does when there are bigger stakes involved. This is where mixing up the tag comes into play, and I have a simple way to inject a little variety in your game, while masking your true identity from your opponents. Let’s face it your opponents are probably tracking your statistics anyhow, and they know you are TAG. So it might be worth a few chips here and there to get involved and, or play some small pots where you are leading the betting with unconventional hole cards. Now I’m not saying you should start playing like a maniac. No, you are still a TAG and that will still get you in the money frequently enough to be profitable. But what you need to do is throw a surprise and in there once in a while, in order to throw your opponents off your trail. And it needn’t cost you a lot.
I do it by selecting a favorite hand, but one with a little chemistry. It could be something like 10-8, J9, 79, etc., and if these hands are suited that would be even better. But just pick one of them and at the beginning of the tournament and decide whenever you get that hand you will play it. Now you don’t have to play it like pocket aces, but maybe more along the lines of AT suited – a medium strength hand that you can get away from if you need to. You don’t even have to be determined to show the hand, but if you win a pot with one of these hands eventually someone is going to take note, and not only that it is going to skew your stats such as VP$IP and pre-flop raising to the point where anyone running software on your strategy is going to have a skewed set of numbers on you.
This is certainly a worthwhile endeavor, because it may actually help to improve your post flop play and if you do it consistently you may very well win some monster pots holding, what everyone else will be thinking are donkey hole cards. Just don`t let the pots get too large, and above all – know when to fold.

Squeezing

For example, you have top pair with the best kicker. Chances are they won’t make their draw- be it a straight or a flush draw, etc. Your goal is to limit their pot odds.
Betting after the flop
The main strategy is the suited ace. In a table of whatever limit where 2 or mpoker players pay to see the flop and often stay to see the turn and river as well! the value of the suited ace goes up.
In fact, your overall presumption with a suited ace may be greater than when you have pocket aces because you will almost always play the hand all the way through with aces but you can easily dump a suited ace on the flop if it is not favorable.
Once you’ve decided to bet online, you have to decide how much to bet. This is where pot odds come into play – and separate the men from the boys at the poker table. Your poker betting strategy should be built upon this simple idea, but you must know when to stray and bet in situations when you otherwise wouldn’t.
